CapTex Triathlon
One race down. I was concerned with starting with an olympic distance triathlon, but it turns out I didn't need to worry. Going into the race with conservative goals, this was a chance to get a real look at what kind of performance I can put out.
Goals
- Swim - 1500 meters - 45 min
- Bike - 24.3 miles - 1 hr 15 min
- Run - 6.2 miles - 1 hr
- Final Time - 3 hr
Swim
The swim was the biggest unknown. In the pool I've been averaging around 1:50/100m, but I didn't know how that would translate to an open water swim. I also wasn't fully convinced that I could complete a 1500m swim.

Bike
I really wasn't concerned with the bike. I knew that I wouldn't be the fastest out there, but I can easily complete 24.3 miles. Even after a swim - if I managed to complete the swim. What I wasn't confident in was what my pace would be like coming off of the swim. I wanted to estimate an hour and a half, but my coach was sure that I could do it in about an hour. I decided to split the difference in my goal at 1 hr 15 min.

Run
My overall goal was for a 3 hr completion time. With the swim and bike estimates, that left me with an hour for the run. I have run a 5k under 30 minutes at the very start of my training. I would just have to hope that I was able to keep a sub 10:00 min/mi pace for the full 10k to bring it home.
